Volkswagen Group Strategy for Electric Mobility

The Volkswagen Group is fully committed to electric mobility and is driving the development of the electric car forward using its modular assembly strategy. Eventually, each group brand will add an electric-drive car to its product range. But electric mobility goes a lot further than merely developing the technology. Members from many areas of society, politics, and economy need to strive for it in a combined effort.

Dr. Rudolf Krebs has been appointed Executive Vice President, Head of Group E-Traction, Volkswagen AG, effective 1 September 2010. Dr. Rudolf Krebs was born 10 January 1957 in Dollendorf (Germany). Krebs studied Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, where he also graduated in 1984. Krebs was employed at Andreas Stihl KG, Waiblingen, from 1991 to 1996; lastly, in the position of Department Head of the Construction of Motor-driven Chain Saws. Krebs joined the Volkswagen Brand in 1996, where he was Head of Gasoline Engine Pre-Development. He subsequently joined Audi AG as Head of In-line Engine Development and Gasoline Engine Pre-Development in 2002. Krebs returned to Volkswagen Group in 2005 to become Head of Powertrain Development. Lastly, from 2007 to August 2010, Krebs was Volkswagen Plant Manager in Salzgitter and concurrently Head of the Engine Division there.

Ford's Sustainable Electrification Approach

Ford Motor Company will address key market trends and drivers which point towards increased growth of all forms of electrified transportation. With growth as an assumption, Ford will further explore key approaches to vehicle technology, design and development along with market development to achieve the long term goal of sustainability - economically, socially and environmentally.

Nancy Lee Gioia is Ford Motor Company’s director of Global Electrification. Appointed to this position Oct. 9, 2009, Gioia directs strategy and planning for the next generation of Ford’s global electric vehicle portfolio. Prior to taking her current role, Gioia was Ford’s director of Sustainable Mobility Technology and Hybrid Vehicle Programs for North America.
Gioia first joined Ford Motor Company in 1982 as a graduate trainee in the Electronics Division. She received her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and her master of sciences in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Stanford University. In July 2001, she received the All Star Award from Automotive News and in 2005 and 2010 she was named as one of the Automotive News “100 Leading Women in the Auto Industry.” She remains an active member of the Stanford University Alliance for Innovative Manufacturing (former chair), is a board member of the Electric Drive Transportation Association, and serves on the Inforum Board of Directors.
